I feel as though my update is long overdue.. I was waiting until I had something exciting to write about. Well, POD became a common illness in Vancouver after February 28th, and I'm sure across most of Canada too. If you don't know what POD is, it is Post Olympic Depression! I can't even describe how much fun and excitement there was in Vancouver for the Olympics... it was really an incredible 2 weeks!! Walking downtown on Granville everyone would high five strangers in the red Olympic mitts and I bet hundreds of random renditions of Oh Canada were sung!! I know I took part in a few. It made me SO proud to be Canadian and really made me want to make it that much more to the Olympics. I can't even imagine how incredible it must have been for all of our Canadian medal winners to be able to compete in their own country for an entire nation that was supporting them and cheering for them!!
I was able to go to a few things. I went to the dress rehearsal of the Opening ceremonies which was great... and I also went to a couple of the countries houses, but honestly my favorite part was just walking in the street and watching everyone's enthusiasm and Canadian pride. We really live in a great country and have so much to be proud of :)
Last night I went to the Paralympic Curling. I watched Japan/Germany, Sweden/ Italy and Great Britain/ Switzerland. I don't think I have ever watched much curling, and I would have to say I think I like more fast paced action sports, but it was still really cool to be at the event and watch what these athletes were doing. Paralympians are able to do some really amazing things that I have so much respect for. They had a trial wheelchair curling set up in the lobby which I tested out in between matches and it was definately difficult, that with my target being probably about 8 times closer than in the actual game.
Between Olympic fever, I have been training and coaching basketball. I am coaching a grade 5 girls team at my mom's elementary school which has been really fun and I think the girls are all really enjoying it. We don't keep score in the games though because it is just for 'fun' at this point, although I usually have it tracked in my head... unless we go down by a lot, then I just lose track. Spring Break in BC is over 3 different weeks for different school districts this year, so last week I did a basketball camp for Senior Girls in Vancouver and this week I am doing a camp with Allison for kids in grades 3-7. Always fun when the kids are enthused and want to learn!! Today we even had a kid named Monie, pronounced 'Money' .... so we told him he should never quit since people will always be able to say "He's Money"!! Pretty good reasoning if you ask me...
Last but not least, I want to say good luck to Janelle starting her first games in the big dance on Saturday in SEATTLE!!! Hoping to get a bit of a Vancouver Canada Basketball crowd down to cheer her on!! ENJOY MARCH MADNESS!!!
GO CANADA GO!!!
